Welcome to the Literary Giveaway Blog Hop put together by the admirable Judith of Leeswammes Blog. I hope you enjoy hopping around and seeing the great giveaways and the even better blogs. With more than 60 blogs participating, you are sure to find something that will suit you.
I decided to do something different for this giveaway – rather than a book, I will be giving away a $25 gift certificate from my local independent book store – Auntie’s Bookstore in downtown Spokane, Washington. Aunties is the center of reading in Spokane featuring book lectures, book group support, an eclectic selection of new and used books, a great staff, and the best “buy a book” donation program at Christmas. Not to mention the old building that house Aunties including the absolutely beautiful staircase to the second floor. Now I know you all can’t actually come and visit Spokane (although it would be fun to have you), but the bookstore has assured me that you can purchase any book available in the United States through its website – http://www.auntiesbooks.com. This way I get to show a little support for independent book stores!
The rules:
- Anyone can enter. You do not need to have a blog.
- You must include an email address so I can contact you
- In your comment please tell me which book you think you might order and why (I need more suggestions for my TBR list because over 200 books isn’t enough)
- You need a post-office recognized address, anywhere in the USA where you can receive a letter.
- You do not have to be a follower or become a follower, although if you like my blog I hope you will!
- You can enter the giveaways until Wednesday June 27th at 10:00 pm Pacific Standard Time.
- Note that double or invalid entries will be removed.
- I will notify the winners by email. The winners need to answer my email within 3 days, or I’ll announce a new winner.
- That’s it! Good luck and thanks for playing.
Again, just leave a comment to this post and tell me which book you are thinking of purchasing and why and include your e-mail address.
For more giveaways – start hoping using the list below.
EDITED TO ADD: It has come to my attention that some of the links below are not participating in the Giveaway. If you are hopping from my blog – please go to Leeswammes’ Blog for an updated list.
I would probably get Grave Mercy by Robin Lafevers. I’ve read many positive reviews about the book and I like the plot because it seems really intriguing.
kassandralopez32@yahoo.com
I would probably get Battle Royale by Koushun Takami. It’s known as the first Hunger Games. I’ve been wanting to read this one before The Hunger Games was created.
I would order Bring Up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel. I read the prequel, Wolf Hall, and can’t wait to get it. I’m a big historical fiction fan, especially Elizabethan era stories.
hey_jupiter@suddenlink.net
No entry for me because I really don’t need more books, but I wanted to pipe in and say that Auntie’s really is a lovely store! I went there when I was visiting Jenny last year and was really impressed. (We actually ended up visiting both locations because one of the books she wanted was only at the mall location.)
I would probably get “The Little Stranger” by Sarah Waters. She’s just brilliant!
Fingers crossed!

Maybe a Karen White book, I’ve been wanting to read one of hers.
What a great giveaway prize…I love supporting local independent book sellers! Like you, my TBR pile overfloweth with amazing titles. I would choose from these: John Saturnall’s Feast by Lawrence Norfolk, Clara and Mr. Tiffany by Susan Vreeland, A Lady Cyclist’s Guide to Kashgar by Suzanne Joinson, or Fugitive Pieces by Anne Michaels.

Beth 🙂
Thank you for the chance to win! I would chose The Newlyweds by Nell Freudenberger. I have never read her before and I’m really eager to check her out!
I would probably choose East of Eden by John Steinbeck. It’s one of those novels I’ve been hearing so much about for years.
One I have on my wish list is The Starboard Sea by Amber Dermont.

Not eligible for entry, but here to wish you a great hop.
Bow before the mountain ash – Olli Heikkonen
Bow before the mountain ash. Under it, face up,
your brother lies. In earth’s bosom
bones blacken, herbs sprout between vertebrae.
Bow before the mountain ash, its skinlike bark,
the necklace hung on a forked branch. Bow
to the treetop’s flame.
The roots pierce your brother’s chest.
The roots pierce your brother’s forehead.
The mountain ash is full of voices,
when spring comes, they burst out as leaves.
What a great idea. We only have on new independent bookstore left in Wichita. For that matter we only have one chain bookstore left. I’m not sure what I would get right now but I do need to replace ( I let other borrow and never got back) my copies of Watership Downs by Douglas Adams, The Road by Cormac Mcarthy, and the complete stories of Flannery O’Connor.

What a lovely idea!!! I wish my town had an independent bookseller! There are some steller ones several hours away, but what I wouldn’t give to be able to stop in one on a whim.
I would love to read The Perks of Being a Wallflower before it hits theaters.
Ooops (dogwoodlane (at) suddenlink (dot) net
I would love to get The Diviners by Libba Bray. Thanks for the chance!
Ah, given the opportunity to choose a title? I had to go to a wishlist on my nook as there are so many I’ve made a note of (like you, 200+ books aren’t enough?! :). They include: The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes, The Fault in Our Stars by John Green and The Prague Cemetary by Umberto Eco.
Regardless of winning, I think it’s such a fabulous idea of yours to support the local independent stores. Our once charming town has turned into a giant Ann Taylor store, and it disgusts me. I so miss the unique, and more personal, shops that I knew as a child.
Thank you for participating so generously in this Literary Blog Hop.

I would like either the new Ken Follett book coming out or Gillespie and I = thanks for the giveaway.
I would get Destined, a novel of the Tarot by Gail Cleare. I’ve been wanting to read this for awhile!
I love the name of your favourite bookstore – Aunties Bookstore 🙂 I wish I could come and visit there. I am sure I will buy tons of books 🙂 Thanks for posting the picture.
I’m obsessed with reading The Last Romanov..so I’d definitely grab that!
Glad to see an indie bookstore flourishing, and supported! We’re really spoiled in my area to have several, but nearby counties haven’t been so lucky. I’m thinking about OFFICE GIRL by Joe Meno as my book choice…
i’d order the prisoner of heaven by carlo ruiz zafon.
This is an awesome idea! I’m all about supporting our local indie bookshops, for sure. Which book would I choose? Hm… I’m not sure yet, but I have been trying to complete my collections of Mark Twain, Kurt Vonnegut, and the Bronte Sisters. I’m close on all 3.. so I’ll probably get one (or two) of their works.
Thanks for the chance!

I think I’d purchase “A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini. I’ve seen it as a giveaway option on a few blogs on the hop and it’s just reminded me how much I have wanted that book and for how long.
Thank you for the giveaway!

Great idea to support your local bookstore! I’ll have to keep that in mind when I host a giveaway next time.
If I were to win, I’d get Juliet by Anne Fortier because I think the blend of history, mystery and contemporary sounds fun for summer reading.

Thanks for joining th hop. How nice that you’re thinking of your local book shop. Great idea.
First of all, I’d like to commend you for promoting your local bookstore. I tend to want to promote my local library, a lot. But I don’t have any fantastic local bookstores that I love, which I think is sad. Kudos to you for helping to promote them! 😀 Also, Thank you for your generosity, and for being part of the Literary Giveaway Hop.
That being said, I think I’d order “The Art of Hearing Heartbeats” by Jan-Phillip Sendker. I’ve heard lots of praise for the book, and it seems like the book that houses a secret, yet is endearing and heartfelt. I love novels that deal with issues of loss, abandonment, as well as love and joy – and this seems to be just that kind of book.

There are so many books I am interested in reading. I have recently been on a Bradbury kick, and by recently I mean the past year or so. If you haven’t read anything by him, I would suggest Something Wicked This Way Comes or Death is a Lonely Business.

I have so many books on my TBR pile that I would have to really think about it. Lately I have been reading so much YA that I can’t even think of any “adult” titles that I want.

I would pick something off my huge wishlist – maybe 1Q84. It seems like a really interesting book. Thanks for the giveaway!

Calling Imaginary Women because so often women do so much that no one even realizes they are there as people any more. I can relate.

I am not sure what I would order. I might get the newest one from Ann Patchett. It is so nice of you to support your local independent book shop. The one in our neighborhood had to close and I miss it so much. Thanks for the great giveaway.
