It’s Sunday and I get to share the NY Times Crossword with my mom. She is the only person I like sharing the puzzle with – anybody else and I get fairly possessive. My mom and I spent a delightful day with a morning filled with cards and crossword and the afternoon/evening watching Jane Austin. We watched an old version of Persuasion and then the Colin Firth version of Pride and Prejudice. My mom has at least four different versions of P&P but that one is her favorite. Now on to the goodies.
S. Krisna reviews a memoir called Lonely: A Memoir by Emily White which sounds fascinating particularly the difference between loneliness and depression. As someone who has suffered from both I look forward to reading about the differences between the two.
Kerry of Hungry Like the Woolf posts about Katherine Stockett coming to town which led me to Kerry’s very amusing review of The Help
Stuck in a Book mentions an author that I have never heard but now I definitely want to look up: Tove Jansson and her book of short stories Traveling Light. The story “The Woman who Borrowed Memories sounds very intriguing especially since I just finished Anthony Doerr’s short story “The Memory Wall“.
Deb Baker mentions several books in her August reading wrap-up in Bookconscious. She briefly mentions and reviews Stormchasers, a book with a bi-polar character (scroll about mid-way down). My friend Lisa has a similar good opinion of this book so it goes on the hold list from the library.
Friday and Saturday saw visits to some of Salem’s really fine used bookstores so I will post my goodies later.
Happy Reading.
